Diane Young, businesswoman and community activist has filed to run for City Council At-Large in Warren. Ms. Young, president of The Athena Financial Group, an independent financial planning firm, has spent years working to improve the communities in which she lives. She has served on the boards of the Girls Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Inforum, Financial Planning Association of Michigan, Paint Creek Center for the Arts and numerous non-profit committees. Last year, she helped lead the effort to secure the millage for Macomb Community College, helping them strengthen their financial footing for decades to come.

Young is the recipient of several awards including Five Star Wealth Manager, Esteemed Women Award, NAWBO Business of the Year, and Rochester Business Woman of the Year. She has also won several apple pie baking contests!

“I am really excited about turning my efforts to Warren. When I moved here a few years ago I could see that there was a lack of leadership in our community. From declining taxable values and problems with blight, to our city leaders being very disrespectful of their fellow community members.” She added, “There is no place for this type of language in City Hall.” Her main issues include funding for neighborhood roads, cleaning up parks and making them more accessible, and improving property values.

Young moved to Warren a few years so she and her family could be closer to Macomb Community College where her husband works as an Associate Dean of Math and Science, and also closer to Detroit where their daughter attends the College for Creative Studies. “I love being so close to everything here in Warren,” she said. “We have great walkable neighborhoods and fantastic homes.”  Young is very proud of the home she bought and renovated, and includes a slide show of the renovation project on her website www.dianeforwarren.com.
